Our Commitment to the Environment
-
It is our aim to do as much as possible to lessen our impact on the environment and to contribute to the local community and local economy.
-
We will try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, helping guests to be aware of what we are doing and what they can do here (and at home).
- Our outside lighting is on a time clock. We will use energy efficient light bulbs where ever possible inside and outside the house.
- We have Ecoflow units on the house heating systems and to our vehicles to increase fuel efficiency and REDUCE harmful emissions.
- All our radiators have independent thermostatic controls and we have thermostatic showers with special economy flow shower heads.
- We encourage guests to REDUCE water, by placing signs in the bathrooms to this effect.
- Toilet, kitchen and tissue paper used in the house is made with RECYCLED paper.
- Whenever possible we use economy electricity overnight to run our washing machines and dishwasher.
- When we replace appliances we try to get energy and water efficient alternatives. (A or B rated if possible).
- From spring onwards we always line dry all our towels and sheets.
- We produce our own range of vegetable based shower gel and hand cream which we provide in the guest rooms.
- We RECYCLE paper, glass, cans and plastic. We compost all our vegetable and garden waste. (We also have a Wormery).
- We REUSE as much paper as possible and use RECYCLED paper in our office.
- We try to minimize the use of chemicals in our gardens and actively encourage wildlife with bird feeders, nesting boxes and insect houses.
- We encourage our guests to support our local pubs, restaurants and local attractions.
- We source all our food locally and support our local bakers, butchers, farm shop, village shop and farmers market.
- A bike store is available and cycle hire can be arranged.
- Public transport is quite limited but we can help with timetables on request.
- Local walks are provided for trips from Embleton.
